Project Overview

seismic response reduction factor (R) is a crucial factor in structural systems that reduces elastic seismic base shear to the design level base shear. It is influenced by the structure's ductility, redundancy, and overstrength attributes. The R factor is crucial for structural systems to be economical and acceptable under design level seismic disturbances. However, the code recommended R values are empirical and may not always guarantee identical levels of safety, leading to unforeseen yielding and failure during severe earthquakes. seismic response modification factors (sRMFs) are essential for researchers to identify strategies to avoid such failures. special steel moment resisting frames (ssMRFs) play a significant role in India's infrastructure development, and this study aims to assess the sRMFs of typical ssMRFs designed according to Indian standards. A sufficient number of ssMRFs with different geometry can be selected and designed according to Is seismic provisions. Nonlinear mathematical models with relevant inelastic properties can be created in the Opensees platform. Incremental dynamic analyses (IDA) and linear dynamic analyses (LDA) are conducted to determine the inelastic and elastic base shear demands, with ground motion records selected for suitable ground motion records. The seismic response modification factors can be evaluated for the ssMRFs under study by comparing the results with the code-based design base shear (Vd). This will help researchers identify strategies to avoid failure during severe earthquakes and promote sustainable growth in India's infrastructure.
