About

Vibration isolation is a significant topic in seismically active regions, and researchers worldwide have adopted various vibration screening techniques. Trenches are popular but have limitations due to soil instability, so piles or boreholes can be used to overcome these limitations. Waste tires, a recyclable product made from discarded tires, are a sustainable solution for recycling. sand-crumb rubber mixture encased in geomembrane can be utilized as infill materials for vibration screening. This proposal is a numerical and experimental study to investigate factors influencing the vibration screening efficiency of rows of boreholes filled with geomembrane encased waste rubber and sand mixture. The objectives of the research include numerically investigating the efficiency of a single row of boreholes filled with geosynthetic encased waste crumb rubber and sand mixture, validating numerical analysis results with experimental investigation, studying the effect of infilled borehole isolation on the resonance frequency and amplitude of foundation blocks, and applying the design methodology for designing suitable infilled borehole wave barriers to isolate vibration generated from railway tracks due to train movement. Experimental investigations will involve block vibration tests on the foundation block, measuring ground vibration amplitude at known distances on either side of the wave barrier. The outcome of the project will provide important insights on parameters involved in the design of vibration isolation systems, helping designers adopt suitable design criteria for isolation systems and isolated foundations subjected to dynamic load.
