About

Over-speeding is a major cause of accidents worldwide, and reducing vehicular speed can increase road safety and reduce aggressive driving behavior. Traffic calming devices, such as speed bumps and humps, can be used to encourage safe driving in traffic management systems. speed bumps are more aggressive than speed humps due to their large height to travel-distance ratio, which can cause discomfort and damage to vehicles. Research has focused on assessing passengers' discomfort due to speed breakers and identifying contributing factors that cause discomfort leading to spinal cord injury and chronic backache. Alternatives to speed bumps include speed tables, which are expensive due to their large size. Innovative speed breakers using non-Newtonian fluids have been developed, but their application is restricted due to high costs. This research aims to develop a novel cost-effective approach for traffic calming measures, allowing drivers to slow down below a certain threshold to avoid jerk. If drivers maintain a speed higher than the threshold value, the proposed traffic calming device will slow vehicles by jerk and vibrations, reducing riders' discomfort compared to conventional speed bumps. This cost-effective solution could be widely implemented on Indian roads, preventing goods from getting damaged on market roads and reducing noise pollution when vehicles cross over it.
