Project Overview

Wireless sensor networks (WsNs) have become the primary means for sensing data for analysis in the age of mobile edge computing and IoT applications. However, the poor transmission capacity of WsNs leads to high latency when transferring data from sNs to the far-off cloud. Rechargeable wireless sensor networks (RWsNs) consist of rechargeable sensor nodes deployed over a region and mobile sinks (Mss) that roam around the region for data collection and charging. sensors harvest energy from their ambient energy sources, and a mobile sink collects data through gateways. The remaining sensors forward their data to the gateways, while the Mss visit the gateways for data collection. The main challenges in mobile sink-based data collection or energy transfer include optimizing load distribution among the mobile sinks, optimizing routes of the Mss for data collection and charging, and optimizing the amount of charge to be transferred to individual sensors. This project aims to address data gathering and charging problems in wireless rechargeable sensor networks by developing algorithms and validating their performance, such as data gathering latency, energy utilization efficiency, survival ratio, and dead period of the sensors. The proposed algorithms will be evaluated through simulation.
