About
India's transportation system currently relies heavily on conventional internal combustion engine (ICE) vehicles, which contribute to the depletion of fossil fuels, dependency on oil refineries, and environmental pollution. Electric vehicles have become a viable alternative due to advancements in semiconductor devices, control technologies, and high-speed processors. The project focuses on Permanent Magnet Assited synchronous Reluctance Motors (PMasyRM), which are preferred for two-wheelers and four-wheelers due to their high saliency and similar stator winding to Induction Motors or PMsMs. To synchronize solar (PV) systems to EVs, the PV system charges the battery in idle mode, and the stored energy is utilized in non-idle mode. The PV systems are interfaced to voltage source converters through DC-DC converters, and the PV module operates at its Maximum Power Point mode. The extracted power is stored in the battery, which can be charged through an external charging point or power supply if sufficient storage is not available. The battery stores energy in idle/stand-alone mode and external charging mode. The project also aims to develop speed control strategies for PMasyRM, operating with classical two-level voltage source mode and Mulit-level inversion mode for medium power applications. The main focus is on developing control strategies for PMasyRM and managing battery energy storage.
