Project Overview

Biodiesel is a renewable, eco-friendly biofuel that emits less sulfur and carbon monoxide when burned in a Combined Cycle Engine (CI) engine compared to other fossil fuels. Microalgae, a third-generation feedstock, are a promising alternative due to their high efficiency in converting solar energy into chemical energy. Wastewater, a readily accessible water and nutrient source, is a potential solution for biodiesel production. However, there are gaps in research in this area, such as limited studies on wastewater treatment using microalgae and algal biomass for biodiesel production, the development of efficient nano catalysts for algal biomass to biodiesel conversion using insitu transesterification, limited reporting on optimizing experimental parameters, and the need for more research in designing catalysts for insitu transesterification processes. Additionally, more studies are needed to assess the lifecycle of integrated algae produced by wastewater treatment coupled with biodiesel production.
