About
In low income countries, foodborne diseases are one of the major causes of morbidity and mortality. Majorly controlling is primarily done using chemical or synthetic agents. As a result, several antibiotic-resistance pathogenic strains have been developed, drastically degrading the food quality which finally leads to severe health issues. Due to antibiotic resistance the people infected with antibiotic-resistance germs has more severe illness and needs to get hospitalized. There is a need to look for more safer and environmentally friendly approach to combat the major food-borne pathogens, the use of plant extracts and associated metabolites is been in use since long. Traditional medicinal plants located in Mizoram Northeast India has potential to be used as plant extracts to inhibit the food-borne pathogens. The proposed project will explore the selected traditional medicinal plants for their bactericidal and bacteriostatic potential against foodborne pathogens. Further, the potential of these extracts/phytocompounds will be analysed in vitro, ex vivo and in vivo for their efficacy.
