About
The Himalayas lack sufficient data for conservation and management policies for threatened and endemic species due to fragmentation and unsurveyed areas. Birds are considered strong indicators of forest composition quality, but their focus is on narrow habitat ranges rather than broader ones. Human-driven habitat fragmentation and degradation make it difficult for birds to cope in modified habitats, impacting certain species at high risk of extinction. sikkim, part of the Eastern Himalaya Endemic Bird Area, has over 550 bird species documented. Rapid urbanization and climate change are expected to make these sensitive species more prone to extinction. A detailed study of climate change's impact on threatened bird species in sikkim Himalaya is lacking. Data on the status and distribution of threatened and endemic birds is crucial for understanding threats and executing conservation measures. In-depth scientific studies are needed to assess seasonal variation, potential forest communities, climate change impact, protected areas effectiveness, and sensitization and awareness programs at community levels. The proposed proposal aims to understand the possible climate change impact on threatened birds in the Himalayas by focusing on the seasonal variation, potential forest communities, climate change impact, protected areas effectiveness, and sensitization and awareness programs. This will help to better understand the potential threats and implementation of conservation measures in the Himalayas.
