Project Overview

The present study is proposed in the Dhauladhar Wildlife sanctuary which holds a good population of both the bear species (Ursus thibetanusand Ursus arctos). study is aimed to estimate population density, understand coexistence, feeding ecology of both bear species and also to map the conflict risk zones. These objectives will be achieved using, sign survey, CTDs, non -invasive DNA sampling, scat analysis and Questionnaires. The study will help to formulate the intraspecific competition between both the bears (if any), threats to their population and will understand the factors affecting the human-bear conflicts for formulating the best management strategies. study will also be pioneer as no published literature is available from the region on the ecological study of both the bears throughout their distribution extent, which will represent the global bear ecology.
