Project Overview

The rapid growth of the population and industries has led to a high demand for energy sources, but large-scale CO₂ emissions are causing climate change. Renewable energy sources are discontinuous and constrained locally, making it urgent to ensure efficient, sustainable, and eco-friendly energy devices. Hydrogen is the best-advocated energy carrier with zero carbon dioxide emissions. solar fuels (H₂, CH₄, CH₃OH) can be used as realistic alternatives to fossil fuels. CO₂ conversion into green fuels can be re-burned for energy generation with zero greenhouse gas emissions. The CO₂ reduction technique is one of the key solutions to the CO₂ emission problem. Electrocatalytic synthesis of hydrogen from water through the hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) and the reduction of CO₂ through the oxygen reduction reaction (ORR) both employ platinum, which is expensive and scarce. several novel Earth-rich HER and ORR catalysts have appeared, with layered structured transitional metal-based catalysts being highly preferred due to their excellent catalytic activity and higher surface energy. However, highly efficient HER catalysts made of premium transition metal-based nanoparticle materials have yet to be discovered. Another area of ongoing research is phosphate-based transition metal elctrocatalysts due to their rich electrochemistry and high stability. Metal phosphide provides good catalytic reactions, and heteroatom doped activated carbon were composited with it. MXenes were synthesized through chemical etching method, with the synergistic effect of bimetallic metal pyrophosphates with MXene expected to bridge the gap between experimental research and commercialization of solar fuels.
