Project Overview

The objective of the proposed work is to study the electronic and optical properties of antimonene nanosheets, nanotubes and nanoribbons. Moreover, the two-dimensional (2D) and one-dimensional (1D) materials such as graphene, silicene, germanene, phosphorene, arsenene and antimonene sheets and nanotubes were predicted and are also experimentally synthesized. Besides, the bulk antimony is exfoliated to layered material; it leads to the synthesis of antimonene. The electronic and optical properties of various allotropes of antimonene are yet to be explored. Also, the addition of dopant, edge effects and functionalization modifies the electronic properties such as energy band gap, electron density and mobility. Furthermore, the optical properties, namely refractive indices, reflectivity, dielectric constant, and absorption coefficient can be tailored based on the nanostructures and by chemical functionalization. The applied stress and electric field will also alter the optical and electronic properties. The main objective of the proposed work is to investigate the optical and electronic properties of new allotropes of antimonene and to utilize the material for optoelectronic and nanoelectronic applications.
