Project Overview

The fast growing laser technology has revolutionized many applications in the field of science and technology, but the adverse effect of laser accidents can cause damage to optically sensitive components, especially the human eye. The titled project aims to design novel optical limiting materials suitable for device fabrication based on 2D nanostructured MXene. The MAX phase will be synthesized using chemical combined ball milling technique and the MXene is exfoliated using molten salt etching method. The synthesized materials will be analyzed using various characterization technique X-ray diffraction (XRD), Raman spectra, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPs), UV-Vis absorption, Photoluminescence. The nonlinear optical studies will be investigated by a Z-scan setup using Nd:YAG laser with a pulse width of nanosecond regime. The focus of the study shifts to measurements of various physical mechanisms involved in the nonlinear absorption processes on the MXene nanostructures on interaction with nanosecond laser pulses for optical limiting applications.
