About
This project is proposed to identify and understand the carbon sequestrated in phytolith in different soil profiles in Nilgiri Biosphere Reserve of India. The main objective of this proposed research work is to determine the distribution of phytoliths in different soil profiles in NBR, to evaluate the variation of the PhytOC and carbon stock in the NBR soil profiles, and to understand the impacts of environmental conditions and vegetation on the accumulation of phytoliths in NBR soil. This work is hypothesized to understand how the present ecosystem sequestrating the atmospheric carbon, particularly by different soil profiles in NBR, by phytoliths.
