About

Indian Reduced Activation ferritic/martensitic (IN-RAFM), structural material, which is similar to modified 9Cr-1Mo steel. To control induced activity Mo and Nb replaced with W and Ta respectively in RAFM steel. IN-RAFM which is developed indigenously for the fabrication of Test Blanket Module of International Thermonuclear Experimental Reactor (ITER). Extensive testing data base including creep, fatigue, physical properties and the processing map of IN-RAFM map generated by Metallurgy and Materials group of the Indira Gandhi Centre for Atomic Research (IGCAR) and TBM division of Institute for plasma research . Embrittlement under irradiation will be more likely for the welded joints than for parent metal. TBM and its supporting components should have less number of welds, heat affected zone and distortion. Based on these recommendation conventional welding processes are not recommended. Welding processes which can be considered are activated TIG welding, laser welding and friction stir welding. Dissimilar welds between RAFM and 316LN are required for many connections in which TBMs to the ITER supply system.
