About
The present proposed proposal is based on a bilayer structure approach for enhancing the efficiency of CZTSe-based solar cells by employing a bilayer structure CZTSe/CZTSSe. The reported max efficiency for the three variants of kesterite-based solar cells are CZTS (9.24%), CZTSSe (12.6%), CZTSe (11.6%). Different variety of deposition techniques have been used to deposit these absorber layers and variation for optimizing the annealing time and the temperature has been done, with not much success to improve the efficiency. Even researchers have used doping of different elements in the kesterite material with not much success; the efficiency never crossed 12%. The efficiency on lab scale is still hovering between 10-12%. In the present proposal, we are proposing a bilayer-based device for enhancing device efficiency. We have already demonstrated using simulation to achieve higher efficiency by using a novel structure (Substrate/Mo/CZTS/MoS2/CZTSe/CdS/i-ZnO/ZnO:Al)* and will like to achieve the proposed idea experimentally. In the proposed structure we have introduced a thin insulating layer of MoS2 to avoid, any interdiffusion of elements during high-temperature processing to maintain the stoichiometry of individual layer. We have already demonstrated an efficiency of nearly 4% on CZTSe-based material. *Solar Energy 216(2021) 601-609; https://doi.org/10.1016/j.solener.2021.01.057
