About

Enormous increase of number of mobile user, requirement of sending large data triggers the development of fifth mobile generation (5G) mobile communication standard which can deal with high data rate. To provide such high data rate, communication systems need to be switched in mm wave frequency. However, atmospheric path loss in mm wave frequency bands is very high. To compensate this path loss, high gain antenna is essential. This high gain which is needed to compensate path loss can't be achieved through single antenna. Array designing is inevitable for this. On the other hand, to accommodate more than one wireless communication system in a single module dual-band or multi-band antennas are required. However, issues of poor isolation and high interference come when these antennas are connected with various number of transceivers. This problem can be solved by using multiplexer or filter circuits like diplexer, triplexer, etc. But, it will increase the complexity and size of the system. So, ultimate solution for multi-functional wireless applications is to use self-multiplexing antennas. SIW is preferred to realize self-multiplexing antenna in mm wave frequency as losses in the SIW structures is very low in mm wave region also. Design of self-multiplexing antennas in lower frequency is available in open literature. However, it is extremely rare in mm wave frequency where array formation is mandatory and various parasitic impedances come into play. Due to theses above mentioned two reasons, self-multiplexing antennas' design is really challenging. However, this component has practical utility. This project proposal has been prepared considering importance of self-multiplexing antennas in mm wave region and to provide viable solution for realization of the component.
