About

The proliferation of M2M (Machine to Machine)/IoT (Internet of Things) into the home and work locations - e.g. apartments, offices, industry, hospitals, kiosks - with a variety of complementary and sometimes competing technologies (e.g. Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, Cellular) has opened up value-add evolutionary opportunities ranging from health-care, entertainment, and energy management through intelligent and automated communication between distributed devices. The challenges of integrating front-end passive components and IP onto a CMOS process for high bandwidth millimeter-wave signaling are alleviating due to advances in Silicon Technology with faster transistors. This opens up vast opportunities to expand connectivity to more devices and contexts (higher bandwidth needed) in our immediate vicinity. The major challenges for receiver design at mmWave are Gain, Noise, and Linearity. On the other hand, the transmitter challenges include power capability, power amplifier (PA) efficiency, and linearity. This research aims to design mm-Wave capable Front-end IP that each device can be tuned for its best performance and power.
