About

The robustness of power systems is measured in terms of a number of parameters including security, efficiency, reliability and sustainability. Therefore, the major focus of the state-of-the-art cutting edge research is directed towards building a framework which is conceptually sound and practically implementable for evaluation, planning and operation of modern cyber physical systems such as the electrical power system. The integration of intrinsically uncertain renewable power such as solar and wind at different part of the power system including distribution system has posed a number of challenges. The current research lacks any comprehensive measure to evaluate the vulnerability of these modern networks to effectively prepare for future contingencies. Therefore, the present proposal aspires to develop a composite index encompassing a number of power system measures involving power system operation, stability and power quality measures to effectively evaluate renewable power integration in power systems. The developed composite index based on multi-criteria decision making approach can provide quantifiable measure of economic, environmental and technological sustainability. The strategy for this work is to measure the solar irradiance data by commissioning a irradiance cum weather monitoring station. Since the deployment of a wind monitoring station is quite costly and cumbersome as experienced by the investigators during installation and operation of a Vantage Vue wind monitoring station, commerical grade wind data is to be purchased from National Institute of Wind Energy, Govt. of India. Wherever possible, open source tools such as OCTAVE will be extensively used for basic programming tasks to ensure wide circulation of obtained knowledge and developed programs. Open source SCILAB-XCOS environment will be utilized for developing power system models. Time series analysis of the measured and procured time series data is to be performed using PYTHON and R. Advanced programming can be performed in MATLAB tools, which is subscribed by the University. Few of the simulations is planned to be carried out using open source power system software such as MATPOWER for load flow and OPF and MATTRANS for dynamic simulation.
