About

The research aims to develop a strontium-based fluorophosphate (Sr-FPG) glass incorporated into Phytosphingosine MinDenT gel (PHS) for enamel and dentine remineralization of human teeth. The composition of Sr-FPG will be synthesized and optimized in a collaborators' laboratory, and re-mineralization and collagen stabilization studies will be conducted in the PI's laboratory. A series of fluoro-phosphate glasses will be incorporated into 6.5% PHS in different ratios, and characterization studies will be conducted. The glass samples will be assessed for apatite forming ability, antimicrobial activity against cariogenic microorganisms, and cytotoxicity on human dental pulp stem cells. The re-mineralizing capability of selected samples will be assessed by incorporating the Sr-FPG into PHS containing paste on demineralized teeth. The teeth specimens will undergo a de-mineralization procedure in an acidic medium for 48 hours. The optimized concentration of the experimental material will be used for the re-mineralizing procedure on in vitro teeth specimens. Physico-chemical properties, structural and mineral density changes, collagen stabilization, and bacterial collagenase activity will be evaluated. The goal is to develop a durable enamel and dentine remineralizing agent for patients with non-carious tooth destruction and incipient carious lesion.
