Project Overview

Injuries, diseases including gangrene, cancer resection lead to amputation or loss of tissue due to limited regenerative potential of human beings. The situation in India is worsening day by day due to rise in road traffic accidents, defense encounters, crushing injuries in rural and industrial sectors resulting in head injuries. Hence, PIs aim to develop skeletal tissue analogue customized porous titanium alloy implants for craniofacial injuries. Custom-made craniofacial implant will be fabricated via CT scan based image reconstruction followed by rapid tooling of customized mold fabrication along with sequential casting and sintering. The sintered body would be finished by CNC machining and polishing to get exact shape and size of the implants. This fabricated implant would be further compared with CT scan data for feasibility of dimensions and the implant would be surface modified for antibacterial efficacy, improved osseointegration. The fabricated and finished bioactive implant to be used for preclinical and human case studies prior to finalization of the implants for intended applications. Part of the study involves cytotoxicity, osseointegrative assessment by observing cell proliferation, migration, differentiation, biocompatibility, cellular activity studies.
