About

The project aims to develop an entirely new technique for atomic magnetic measurements in transmission electron microscopy (TEM). The proposed technique combines the Differential Phase Contrast (DPC) and Electron Magnetic Circular Dichroism (EMCD) techniques in TEM. The crucial experimental parameters will be optimized by the theoretical simulation. The theoretical study will pave a way for the experimental validation of the proposed technique. In the simulation study the inelastic energy-loss spectroscopy signal will be calculated with converged atomic sized probe in scanning transmission electron microscopy (STEM) mode. The EMCD will be calculated with magnetic material FePt, Fe-bcc as a test-bed material. The EMCD will be performed with four segmented DPC detector. The parameters e.g., TEM voltage, convergence semi-angle, material thickness, crystal plane etc will be optimized for further the experimental validation will be performed. The successful implementation of the proposed project will establish a new technique in transmission electron microscopy for atomic scale magnetic properties measurements. The established technique can upsurge research in the areas related to the magnetic materials e.g., nanomagnetic materials, spintronics, quantum computations.
