About

This project aims to control light emission in nanophotonic structures using two pulse excitation, which could lead to revolutionary applications like Quantum key distribution, sensing, LiDAR, adaptive displays, and wearables. The nanophotonics community has traditionally used static approaches to shape the spectral width and directionality of nanoscale light emission. However, the proposed two-pulse excitation scheme offers an additional degree of freedom to modify the spatial and temporal coherence properties of the metasurface-quantum emitter hybrid system. The proposed nanostructures will be designed to selectively excite modes and achieve directional tuning. The de-excitation lifetimes will be controlled by tuning the coupling between the cavity and the quantum emitters using two pulse excitation. The design will be excited with two coherent picosecond pulses of the same wavelength separated by a delay, allowing for control of the fluorescence of quantum emitters. The study expects to uncover the fundamental physics of spatial and temporal coherence properties of quantum emitters coupled to nanostructures. The successful completion of this work will contribute significantly to the understanding of quantum physics related to active nanophotonic systems and transform a range of applications through technological innovations. It will open new directions for further studies, potentially helping to develop on-demand single-photon sources and ultrasensitive quantum sensors. Investigating solid-state quantum emitters and nanophotonic structures could enable room-temperature generation and manipulation of decoherence-free photonic qubits on an integrated chip-scale platform.
