About

To balance the energy supply-demand and carbon emission obligation for sustainable growth, the application of Carbon dioxide enhanced oil recovery (CO2-EOR) technology can be essential for Indian oil fields. The EOR technique help extract additional oil from residual-oil-zones (ROZ) in the maturing oil fields. The main advantage of CO2-EOR is that it will deploy carbon capture utilization and sequestration (CCUS) projects to tackle issues related to energy security and environmental sustainability. The scientific objective is to conduct detailed field-specific laboratory experimentation supported by numerical simulation to study the feasibility of miscible CO2-EOR and simultaneous geo-sequestration in the North-East Indian oil field The miscible CO2-EOR applicability is feasible or not is the main hypothesis to be tested with the proposal. To assess the applicability and efficiency of CO2-EOR for improving the oil displacement, the main experiments include simulated crude distillation with gas chromatography, slim tube experiment, core characterization, and core flooding study supported by numerical simulation. The proposed regional level study is important to harness the new opportunities in the implementation of the national goal for enhancing crude oil production for energy security and carbon sequestration for environmental sustainability. The field of research will prepare the path of decarbonization of the energy industry and smooth energy transition towards clean energy.
