Project Overview

Metal phthalocyanines (MPcs) are synthetic macrocyclic organic semiconductors with good chemical and thermal stability, a high capacity for absorption of visible and near-infrared light, and no known toxicity. According to several research published in the literature, it has been found that the proper functionalization of metal phthalocyanine with 2D nanostructures like graphene, molybdenum disulfide (MOS2), tungsten disulfide (WS2), etc. may improve photocatalytic and optoelectronic performances. The photoinduced electron's transportation from the porphyrin ring to the 2D heterostructure is facilitated by the electrical connection between them. The quantum efficiency of electrolumisence employing 2D heterostructure and the rectification ratio in photodiodes, however, are not yet adequate for device manufacturing, and there is much opportunity for development in this area, as is clear from the current literature data. In this proposed project, these exciting possibilities of MPc functionalized 2D heterostructure would be explored for the fabrication of high performance optoelectronics device and used for photocatalytic applications. This hybrid structure and devices will be fabricated by chemical method and thermal evaporation technique. It would be further characterized by XRD, UV-Vis, Raman spectroscopy, FESEM and HRTEM analysis. The Electroluminescence (EL) measurement and photocatalytic performance will be studied in details.
