About

Recent advances in materials and mechanics have led to the evolution of flexible electronics and the realization of deformable electronic devices. Another important aspect of developing flexible circuits includes improving stretchability with enhanced electrical responses of flexible interconnects. Characterizing functional materials for flexible circuits or designing and optimizing innovative structural designs of interconnects for reliable electronics is of utmost importance for reliable flexible circuits. Inspired by a structure in nature, named spider web, (also called fractal web), which is a mechanically robust structure in the sense that even if one or more spiral or radial lines are broken, the mechanical strength of the strength is not reduced to a non-working value. No works are seen on the physical models of the fracture mechanics of the structure, and we are targeting here. Moreover, in our previous work, we used a spider web structure for a hemispherical photodetector array for the estimation of eye issues. Apart from that, there is a necessity for designing and optimizing innovative structural designs of interconnects of flexible circuits for reliable electronics. The electrical performances of the flexible interconnect in spiderweb architecture are proposed for analyses here under radial and axial load and how electrical parameter changes accordingly. Also, a comparison is presented for different flexible interconnect architectures. The flexible interconnects shall possess multidimensional flexibility with multiple cycles of bending; slowdown in delamination, and limited electromechanical behavior degradation. It also mentions analyzing the impact of strain on different interconnect geometry’s resistance and normal stresses under uniaxial load. The different interconnect geometry gives an analysis of how optimization of interconnects can be integrated into fractal web-based flexible circuits.
