Project Overview

In the present proposal focuses synthesis of metal-dielectric hybrid composites for the application of field electron emission and gas/light sensor devices. We have demonstrated that ion beam can be successfully used for the synthesis of various metallic nanoclusters in any matrix. The optical properties of those nanoclusters have been studied in detail under different environment, temperature conditions. We also have shown that the ion irradiation can be used as green tool for the synthesis of reduced graphene oxide and their application in various fields. Therefore the present proposal focuses the effective coupling of metal nanostructures with dielectric thin film and then the ion beam modified metal-dielectric thin film surface will be studied to enhance the field electron emission and gas/light sensor application. noble metals such Au, Ag, Pt will be mainly used for their attractive physical and chemical properties. Crystalline Si, quartz and amorphous glass matrices will be used as the substrates. Using physical vapour deposition method (pulsed laser deposition (PLD), magnetron sputtering) a thin layer of metal film will be deposited on the substrates. These film will be studied for their electrical and optical properties as a function of film thickness and substrate roughness. Using ion irradiation various shaped (nanopillar, nanorad, spherical nanoparticles) 2D metallic nanostructures will be synthesized. The results of the synthesized nanocomposites in each stage will be discussed with other scientist and Industrialist in India for the practical application. The results will be communicated in peer reviewed journals, conferences.
