About
Spin wave based computing is an emerging sub-field spintronics where the information is encoded into the phase/amplitude of the spin waves. Among different techniques for the characterization of the spin waves, Brillouin light scattering (BLS) is known to be the best tool for spin wave imaging at the nanoscale. This project aims to establish the BLS spectro-microscopy tool which will enable characterization in all four domains: wavevector, time, space and phase. Researchers will demonstrate the capability of this experiment by investigating some of the emerging phenomena such as spin torque and Dzyaloshinkii-Moriya interaction (DMI) in magnetic thin film heterostructures. Magnetic nanostructures will be patterned using the lithography technique in order to demonstrate the effect of size confinement on the spin waves and the modes will be directly imaged at the nanoscale using the BLS microscope tool. The project will further enable a precise analysis of spin wave dispersion and local investigation of propagating spin waves which is essential for the realization of spin wave based spintronic devices in India.
