Project Overview

The 112 ternary pnictides RTX₂ compounds, which are rare-earth/alkaline earth transition metals, have gained significant interest due to their potential applications in spintronics. These compounds exhibit exotic properties such as topological properties, anisotropic magnetization, high magnetoresistance, half metallicity, and Dirac/Weyl semi-metallic behavior. Topological semimetals also show exceptional electronic transport properties, such as high carrier mobility and large linear magnetoresistance. Magnetic Weyl semimetals have gained attention due to the discovery of a large anomalous Hall effect in these materials. Controlling exotic charge carriers could help create a new generation of spintronic devices with low power consumption. This proposal aims to investigate the magnetic and electronic properties of these pnictides to discover new spintronics materials. The proposed method involves synthesizing and verifying the crystal structure, electronic structure, transport, and magnetic properties of these materials using various methods such as xrd, resistivity, magnetoresistance, and magnetization. The knowledge gained from these properties can be used for device applications with better spintronics functionalities. The proposal also includes developing facilities to grow single crystals via flux and chemical vapor transport-based methods, studying electric transport properties, and conducting structural, magnetic, and magneto-transport measurements in collaboration with JNCASR Bangalore, UGC-DAECSR-Kolkata centre, and SINP- Kolkata.
