About

Nitrogen containing heterocycles are considered as important structural motif featured in a large number of natural products, biologically active molecules and are increasingly attractive platform in the development of new pharmaceuticals. In particular, alkaloids are widely distributed in nature and are important scaffold for drug discovery as it is a core unit of many pharmaceutically significant compounds. Some nitrogen heterocycles are used as chiral auxiliary, organocatalyst and chiral ligands in organic synthesis. Although there are many methods for the synthesis of five and six membered nitrogen heterocycles, synthesis of seven membered nitrogen heterocyclic compounds are rare due to instability of seven membered ring. The project aims to synthesize five, six and seven membered nitrogen heterocyclic compounds of biological importance using cascade reaction, easily available starting materials and environmentally benign reagents with high diastereoselectivity. Biological activity of some the synthesized molecules will be undertaken.
