About

The research aims to develop high-intensity laser-assisted nuclear decay using extreme light infrastructure for nuclear physics (ELI-NP, Europe) and an ultrafast laser facility (Shanghai). This will provide a unique probe to investigate strongly bound nuclear matter. The dominant mode of decay, α-decay, is significant in identifying new superheavy nuclei (SHN), while spontaneous fission tends to abort the α- decay chains before reaching the expected region of the nuclear chart. The project also explores nuclear nonlinear optics, focusing on the interaction of ultraintense gamma-rays with firmly bound nuclear matter. The results will provide critical data to experimental groups working with ultraintense γ-rays generated by near-infrared laser light. The interaction of these gamma-rays with firmly bound nuclear matter would be fascinating if realized experimentally. The methodology proposed in this project is attractive due to its simplicity, consideration of experimental availabilities and limitations, and focus on the parameter regime of strong laser fields and nonlinear effects. The next area of research will be exploring ground-state properties of nuclei in the light mass region, specifically deuteron and triton, through bootstrapping. The theoretical models developed will be in accordance with available experimental parameters and limitations, strengthening the country's position in this emerging area of research.
