About

In a weak grid infrastructure, the voltage sag and unbalance are one of the most common power quality disturbances observed by industry as well as in the ship propulsion system. This causes huge inrush currents in stator windings of induction motors, and hence, adversely impacts the motor’s secure operation. The inrush currents in stator winding of motors causes higher torque ripple, noise and temperature rise. This leads to more vibration, insulation failure and bearing current and large voltage drop in the line. This concept is well studied in conventional two-stage AC-DC and DC-AC converter-based AC-AC converter. Now a days due to advances of power semiconductor devices and digital signal processor, direct 3 phase to 3 phase or 5 phase ac-ac converter became very popular. Now direct AC-AC matrix converter gaining popularity in industry, renewal energy integration and electric propulsion systems. However, voltage sag and unbalance is not reported for direct ac-ac matrix converter (DMC) fed five phase induction motor (FPIM) drive. In this project the detailed performance study will be carried out for 3x5 DMC fed FPIM is during voltage unbalance and voltage sag conditions.
