About

Defunctionalization reactions are a useful tool in organic synthesis as it produces complex molecules into a simple one. It has been observed that defunctionalized product is more effective than a functionalized product. Various useful materials can be prepared through biomass degradation and also environmentally hazardous compounds can be converted into harmless compounds by desulfurization and dechlorination process. However during the synthesis of desired natural product some extra steps are needed for the removal of unnecessary functional groups. This insignificant functional group creates a barrier to achieving targeted substituted bio-active natural products. Hence, researchers focused on defunctionalization reaction where the desired natural product can be successfully achieved by applying this protocol. Hence, a finding of proper design substrates and optimum reaction conditions are more crucial in this field of research at the present day. However, removal of the functional group along with the methylene group is a challenging task to the researchers owing to its, lack of proper design of substrate and the limited number of reports. Hence, we will focus on the removal of -X group along with one carbon/two carbon degradation (-CH2X, X = -CH2OH, -CH2NH2, -CH2OMe, -CH2SH, etc.) with metal catalysts and then will apply the developed protocols to synthesize the bioactive pyrrole/indole based products. We will focus on the synthesis of bio-active molecules (Serotonin: neurotransmitter, Camalexin: cytotoxic against prostate cancer cell lines, JG454: Anti-cancer agent, 3-formyl-2-aryl indole: microtubolin inhibitor, Inolyl-3-glycoxamide: potent tubulin polymerization activity, 11H-indolo[3,2-c]quinoline: anti-tumor activity) .
