Project Overview

The advent of novel 2D materials like graphene, few layer transition metal dichalcogenides, organic -inorganic perovskites have created a huge interest in their unique optical properties. In this regard, it is essential to understand their optical spectra in terms of the underlying electronic structure to optimize their functionality for specific applications. Fundamentally, optical spectra like reflectivity spectra, absorption spectra, photoluminescence, Raman spectra, and complex dielectric function can be modelled using phenomenological oscillators. Each of such oscillators can correspond to specific optical transition in the electronic band structure of the material. We aim to use various commercially available optical modelling and optimization tools for such oscillator based physical analysis. At the same time, we plan to develop an in-house and superior graphical modelling platform, which will be multifunctional and could be used for diverse set of data while being efficient. This will involve PhD, masters, and bachelors project students. At the same time, these will be useful for the theoretical understanding and analysis of currently ongoing 2D materials results obtained by PhD students working in the research group.
