Project Overview
The current project aims to study some of the cognitive-linguistic and audiological processing in children with repaired cleft lip and palate R-CLP. In the proposed research, around 50 children with repaired R-CLP and 50 age and gender-matched controls typically developing children will be included. All the participants will have normal hearing sensitivity in both ears. A detailed cognitive-linguistic assessment would be carried out using a computerized Cognitive linguistic assessment protocol for children CLAP-C. In addition, a detailed audiological test battery assessing various auditory processes such as auditory closure, binaural integration and interaction, temporal processing resolution and ordering, auditory memory syllable and digit span would be assessed in both the groups. There is previous literature on R-CLP which report deficits in cognitive-linguistic processing in children with R-CLP. In addition, there are studies that also show poor auditory processing abilities in children with repaired R-CLP. However, there are no attempts to sub-grouping children with R-CLP based on deficits that they exhibit. Hence, the proposed research is a unique attempt to carry out a battery of cognitive-linguistic and audiological tests which can help in better understanding of the problems and may help in deficit specific sub-grouping of children with repaired CLP.
