Project Overview
Genetic enhancement for yield and its component traits in wheat; incorporation of multiple disease and insect resistance in wheat with focus on stripe rust, Karnal bunt and aphids; improving terminal heat tolerance and overall grain quality particularly micronutrient content; identification of genotypes with high lodging tolerance; evaluation and validation wheat genotypes under different tillage interactions; multi-location evaluation for identifying stable genotypes
Achievements
DBW 14 was first indigenously developed variety through shuttle breeding approach and is suitable for rice-wheat system of eastern India; DBW 16 has better resistance against yellow and brown rusts and leaf blight along with yield superiority; CBW 38 has yield advantage over all the checks and candidate varieties and possesses APR to yellow rust race 78S84; DPW621-50 has better yield advantage and possesses APR to yellow rust; DBW 90 has better resistance against yellow and brown rusts and leaf blight; WB2 possesses high Zn & Fe content in grain and has resistant against prevalent yellow rust pathotypes
