The consumption of staple cereals like millets in India dates back to 1500 BC, with traditional recipes like Jowar roti, Raggi mudde, and Bajra khichidi being part of the daily menus of the elder generation. Millet grains are gluten-free, low GI, and contain macro and micro nutrients, which can help prevent and manage diabetes, obesity, cardiovascular diseases, and other lifestyle diseases. As lifestyle-associated diseases become more prevalent, it is important to scientifically validate the traditional recipes of millets for their health benefits.
This project proposes a clinical validation through randomized clinical trials using healthy volunteers of traditional recipes made from mixed millet for their diverse health benefits. The study aims to investigate the nutritional quality of millets, their role in managing diabetes and pre-diabetic conditions, their lipid-lowering effect, inflammation reduction, liver health, and gut microflora.
