Project Overview

The aim of the work is to design, self-assembly, and functional studies of fac-[{Re(CO)3}2(OH)(azolate)] core as scaffold-based supramolecular coordination complexes (sCCs) and acyclic complexes for materials and medicinal chemistry. similarly, fac-[{Re(CO)2}2(OH)(azolate)] core-based supramolecular coordination complexes and acyclic complexes will be synthesized. In this proposal, PI wish to use of fac-[{Re(CO)n}2(OH)(azolate)] (where n = 3 or 2) core as for the design for the self-assembly of new class of discrete molecular tetranuclear rectangular prisms, hexanuclear prisms, octanuclear prisms, and acyclic complexes and study their solution stability and functional properties including their reactivity with heterocyclic units that are present in the DNA bases. The objective of the proposed work will be achieved by predesigned pyrazolyl/tetrazolyl motif- based di-, tri-, and tetra-topic nitrogen donors and use with heterocyclic nitrogen donors (pyrazole, pyrazole derivatives, tetrazole, tetrazole, pyridine, imidazole, benzimidazole, phosphine derivatives) and Re2(CO)10. Acyclic complexes containing the above core present in the sCCs will be prepared using monodentate heterocyclic nitrogen donor ligands. The physical and functional properties of the proposed sCCs will be modulated to get the desired complexes by modifying the substituents at both the coordination units and spacer unit of the donor. Both the proposed discrete sCCs and acyclic complexes will be reacted with heterocyclic motifs present in the DNA. The outcome of the studies is expected to provide a library of rhenium(I)carbonyl complexes which may have potential in the field of biomedical fields.
