Project Overview

The proposed project is noble on both sides of the new way of utilizing biomass, and another part is developing catalysts. Bio-2-Amines is original and novel in various respects. It will establish a detailed structure/reactivity correlation for the hexanediol to amines on targeted multisite functional materials and its alloys as a model catalyst under thermocatalytic conditions. Advanced catalysts having a wide variety of metal and support systems including core-shell structure, the single atom will be a focus of our investigation. In particular, the implementation of the new process through the cascade conversion of amine derivatives and the pathways will lead to the development of a new route towards amines of industrial importance. Integrated catalytic approaches for the selective amines from biomass over the highly active catalysts are beyond the current cutting-edge methodology. It is of general importance in the context of a technological application/realization of biomass utilization, specifically for the design of a catalyst that can activate specific functional groups and convert them into useful compounds. For the first time, an innovative approach will be coupled not only in designing new highly active non-noble metal-based catalysts but also the advanced catalytic system will be applied to the study, which allows for the acquisition of true kinetic data under controlled mass transfer conditions while determining the resulting product distribution. In combination with the operando Raman/IR analyses, will substantially boost our mechanistic understanding of biomass utilization and of the catalyst activation/degradation pathways. The catalytic activity of non-noble metals will be extended in detail to a bimetallic combination with noble and/or nonnoble metals to drastically enhance the activity and selectivity. These could be applied more broadly to other catalysts of technological relevance for the creation of high-surface active sites/areas.
