Project Overview
Lewis acid-catalyzed atroposelective synthesis of biaryl frameworks containing 2-naphthols will be executed. Numerous methodologies have already been documented over the past few decades for the construction of axial chirality. Most successful strategies are metal and organo catalyzed C-H arylation, cross-coupling reaction, atroposelective functionalization via resolution. Therefore, the construction of atropisomers from small and easily available molecules is still scarce. Hence, this proposal bestows an approach to compensate for that deficit by utilizing four-membered carbocycle-cyclobutanone and would unlock a new avenue for the synthesis of a wide range of axially chiral biaryl frameworks. A thorough investigation of this hypothesis with different aryl containing cyclobutanone will be carried out and the results will be published in peer-reviewed journals. A crucial endeavor will be provided to implement this idea for the construction and modification of many chiral ligands and drug molecules and further their biological activities will also be evaluated.
