Project Overview

Research in high energy materials (HEMs) is driven by their diverse applications in defense, civil areas, mining, construction, oil, and space exploration. HEMs balance energy content with desired properties like higher detonation performance, thermostability, low sensitivity against mechanical and accidental initiation, non-polluting, and non-toxic behavior when exposed to the environment. Global efforts focus on environmental considerations, safety requirements, tuned energetic properties, and superior detonation performance for special applications. At our laboratory, we aim to synthesize HEMs that balance insensitivity with superior energy output. Our methodology focuses on heterocycles with high nitrogen-oxygen contents, achieving higher performance characteristics and being environmentally friendly. These HEMs release energy due to the high heat of nitrogen-rich compound formation and oxidation products formed during detonation.
