Project Overview

The research proposal aims to synthesize polycyclic (hetero)aromatic (PHA) compounds, including 6-aryl-8,9-dihydrobenzo[c]phenanthridin-10(7H)-ones, by a four-component reaction. These compounds will be converted into 6-arylbenzophenanthridine-10-ol derivatives, trisubstituted benzoquinoline derivatives, and various chromenophenanthridine derivatives. The study will focus on anticancer and antimalarial activity studies, as well as exploring the photophysical properties of nitrogen-containing polycyclic compounds for potential application in material science. The second part of the proposal focuses on exploring the reactivity of 4-hydroxydithiocoumarin to synthesize 2,3-dihydrothiopyran, hybrid molecule, β-substituted vinyl sulfide, and carbamates. The synthesis of thiopyrano[2,3-b:6,5-b′]bis(thiochromene)-12,14(13H)-dione and 1,3-thiane derivatives will be achieved from 4-hydroxythiocoumarin and aldehyde. These unreported heterocyclic entities will be studied for biological activity. The third part of the proposal aims to create an environmentally friendly synthesis of 2-deoxy-O-glycoside derivatives using in situ generated iodonium ion and peroxo-vanadium chemistry. The method will be extended to 2-deoxy-disaccharide and 2-deoxy-trisaccharide.
