Project Overview
Changing climate over the last few decades has given rise to many concerns beyond increasing global temperatures. The most devastating effect of this climate change had been seen in increasing number of extreme weather events like extreme floods, droughts, heat waves and cold waves over the globe. Thus, immediate steps are needed to reduce the losses from devastating effects of extreme events. The intraseasonal oscillations contribute to high variance over the tropics, where organized convection resulting from convectively coupled equatorial waves and Madden Julian Oscillations (MJO) are known to influence important weather phenomena like monsoon, tropical cyclones etc including extreme weather events. This project is expected to quantify the relationship between changing climate and intraseasonal oscillations and their effect on extreme events to get a better understanding and prediction skills of extreme weather events in future.
