Project Overview

The proposed personalized musculoskeletal intervention system will allow both patient and the medical professionals to visualize the prescribed trajectory and to adjust the affected limb motion through markerless tracking of its present position in the physical space. The proposed system does not require expensive devices as it leverages advanced artificial intelligence and computer vision algorithms to track body motion from the cost-effective RGBD cameras and other wearable sensors such as wireless wearable inertial measurement units (IMUs), and electromyography (EMG) sensors. The proposed system can easily track/guide the patient's motion (ROM) in the physical space and measure the range of motion and muscle strength. A special feature will localize the pain threshold with its specific ROM values. The collected data visualized as graphical trends can track the progress of the patients and session histories for further interventions. since the components of the system are generally low in cost, they can be easily afforded by both the patients and the physical therapy professionals. It also eliminates the need for multiple measurement devices and can be used to measure the range of motion or muscle strength of the patient undergoing rehabilitation. Thus, the outcome of the proposal is a computer-aided personalized digital rehabilitation system that will greatly benefit the people undergoing rehabilitation by providing visual guidance of their progress.
