Project Overview

In the proposed study, we revisit the problem of linear interaction of small amplitude perturbations of vorticity, entropy and acoustics with a planar, wrinkled premixed flame in the limit of low Mach numbers (M ≪ 1, see Fig. 1). Using a geometric approach, the downstream disturbances are written explicitly in terms of transfer functions of the upstream perturbations. These transfer functions depend only on the angle of incident perturbation and the mean temperature jump across the flame. The analysis is similar in its approach to Fabre et al. (2001) who studied the interaction of an entropy spot with a normal shock. The analysis will then be used to develop a weakly nonlinear theory for interaction of a premixed flame with vorticity and acoustic disturbances.
