Project Overview

The project aims to develop 18650 cells with commercial NMC532/622 and graphite anode, scale up thermally stable NMC cathode production, develop Li-ion batteries for Indian geographic and socio-economic conditions, and develop 1.5KWh battery packs. The cells will be fabricated with 2.5Ah capacity and tested under real-time operational conditions. The goal is to reduce cost and environmental toxicity while improving energy density. Current batteries for electric vehicles and renewable storage are mainly based on graphite anodes with LiCoO2/Li-NMC formulations/LiFePO4 cathodes. The project aims to develop lithium-ion batteries in India, as there is no manufacturing of these batteries despite significant market potential. This will put the Indian industries on the global map and open new business opportunities for battery manufacturers. Rechargeable Li-ion batteries are suitable for powering electric vehicles, hybrid electric vehicles, and other electronic devices.
