Project Overview

Gyro-devices, including gyoklystrons, gyro-TWTs, and gyrotrons, have gained significant interest due to their potential applications in various fields. Currently, gyro-devices are developed as single electron-beam tubes, which require large kinetic energy and beam current for high output power. This leads to a significant overhead in the system, including peripheral accessories and a larger weight and cost. The Vacuum Electron Device community has been investigating multi-beam devices for performance improvement in slow-wave microwave tubes and fast-wave devices. However, the design, analysis, and simulation of multi-beam gyroklystron amplifiers have not been explored in India. The need for miniaturized devices with lower operating voltage, wider bandwidth, and lower noise handling capability is crucial. Multi-beam gyroklystron amplifiers can effectively be used for ground-based, airborne, and space-based radars. To date, only theoretical studies have been reported on this device, and no work has been explored in India or globally in the design and simulation study of a multi-beam gyroklystron device. The proposal aims to develop a systematic design procedure, analysis, and simulation of a compact, three-cavity multi-beam gyroklystron amplifier operating at Ka-band for its application in radars. The attainment of higher values of saturated gain and electronic efficiency at a compact size and lower beam voltage will prove its applications for future radars.
