Project Overview

In this work, development of a medical device that will rapidly detect the AIB1 in breast cancer cells based on aptamerfunctionalized biosensor is proposed. The standard methods used for the detection of AIB1 protein in cells and tissues consist of Western blotting and immunohistochemistry analysis [1, 2] methods which result time consuming and require expensive antibodies, making clinical breast cancer screening tedious and inefficient. Therefore, faster, highly specific, more efficient, safe, and low-cost diagnostics assays are required for early diagnostics of cancer. Herein, we take advantage of the high specific interaction of a fluorescent-labelled aptamer with the target AIB1 protein and the fast cell membrane penetration through motion of active particle to develop a real time qualitative intracellular imaging method for rapid AIB1 intracellular sensing (Fig. 1(b)). The breast cancer cells will be stirred using active particle and bonded with fluorescent-labelled aptamers immobilized on the active particle. This addresses the need for faster assays by offering a tool that is adaptable to a wide variety of assay configurations and reduces the incubation time required to perform a specific detection while maintaining its sensitivity.
