Project Overview

The exponential rise in wireless devices and data consumption poses a significant challenge for wireless engineers, especially when it comes to massive Internet-of-Things (IoT) networks for 5G and beyond 5G communications. Allocating exclusive licensed spectrum to billions of IoT devices and providing service to IoT networks in remote locations is difficult. satellite IoT is an important technology in this regard, but interference management is a vital issue. Cross-layer studies are needed to address this problem, as both physical and network layers' parameters are associated with performance metric optimization. This project aims to design efficient and optimal cross-layer scheduling algorithms for massive IoT networks to optimize performance metrics, which may be relevant for 5G-based smart networks, such as cities, homes, and agriculture. The main experiments will focus on designing efficient and optimal cross-layer scheduling algorithms for massive IoT networks, which will be validated by simulation. The significance of this project lies in its focus on spectrum sharing for IoT networks in satellite spectrum, which could help avoid spectrum availability concerns and fundamentally understand how to design efficient and optimal cross-layer scheduling algorithms for IoT networks for centralized setups. This would also help in designing distributed setups in the future.
