Project Overview

This research aims to fabricate low-voltage alternators using polyester resin nanocomposite as electrical insulation for their main stator and rotor windings. The optimal content of nanofillers (siO2, hBN, and AlN) will be chosen through preliminary experiments, characterization studies, and type tests as per IEEE standards. Various prototypes of different ratings will be fabricated in the industry, with permission available from the investigator. Type tests and regulation tests will be conducted, including insulation resistance and polarization index measurements, temperature rise test, and voltage regulation test. The prototypes will be thermally aged at 160 deg and 180 deg to analyze the performance of the proposed insulation material in terms of efficiency and life expectancy at higher temperatures. The study is expected to develop a low-voltage alternator with improved efficiency and longer life using the optimized insulation for its main stator and rotor windings. The proposed insulation material can be commercially used for different machines, as most low-voltage rotating machines use polyester resin insulation.
