Project Overview
Glaucoma is an ocular disorder causing gradual loss of eye sight, affecting 80 million people worldwide. It is the second major cause of blindness and is primarily caused by improper intraocular pressure. Intensification of intraocular pressure is the central cause of glaucoma, which can lead to blindness if left untreated. Goldmann applanation tonometry (GAT) is commonly used to measure intraocular pressure, but it must be continuously monitored due to variations in time and location. A study aims to create a portable and flexible nanogenerator that can continuously measure intraocular pressure. The nanogenerator is based on polydimethylsiloxane nanofibers combined with graphene and zinc oxide nanoparticles (PGZ) nanogenerators, which are transparent, biocompatible, and piezo-electric. The PGZ nanogenerator is portable, can be placed in any part of the body, especially the eyes, and is transparent, biocompatible, and piezo-electric. This portable device will serve as a promising tool in detecting glaucoma and providing a more accurate and sensitive detection of the condition.
